Ways to Use the Surreal Desert Collage Art:

Art Journals

Use as a background or focal spread.

Glue the full sheet into your art journal as a foundation. Layer doodles, paint, quotes, or reflective writing over it. The warm desert tones provide emotional atmosphere and a great mood setter for introspective or memory-based journaling.

Junk Journals

Tear it, fold it, or collage with vintage ephemera.

Rip it into strips or shapes to layer with book pages, ticket stubs, and lace. It adds contrast and depth to grungy or nature-themed junk journals. The print works beautifully when used as a fold-out flap, tip-in, or even a mini envelope.

Mixed Media Art

Incorporate into textured pieces or canvas work.

Use gel medium or matte medium to adhere the sheet to canvas, wood, or watercolor paper. Build layers with gesso, ink, thread, or found materials. The surreal design becomes a dreamlike base for intuitive, expressive art.

Crafting Projects

From handmade notebooks to altered books.

Use the print to decorate DIY book covers, bookmarks, or gift tags. Great for creating a desert or travel-themed handmade gift. You can also laminate pieces and turn them into durable, reusable elements for journals.

Decoupage

Apply to trays, boxes, or wood panels.

Print it on thin paper and decoupage onto surfaces using Mod Podge or similar adhesive. Ideal for transforming thrifted trays, coasters, or decorative panels into unique boho-style home decor.

Card Making

Use as a full card front or background layer.

Cut and glue to the front of a blank card, then embellish with stamps, washi tape, or lettering. Works well for thank-you cards, thinking-of-you notes, or nature-themed seasonal greetings.

Scrapbooking

Highlight travel, nature, or personal growth themes.

Use this sheet as a background for a scrapbook spread, or cut it into decorative elements like tabs, frames, or journaling blocks. Pairs beautifully with photos from hikes, road trips, or sunsets.

Digital Collage or Printables

Use in Procreate or Photoshop for layering.

Import the image into digital art programs to use in digital journaling or printable kits. You can add digital stamps, textures, or overlay text to customize it further.

DIY Stationery

Turn into letter paper or wrapping sheets.

Print on high-quality paper to use as stationery for pen pals or journaling. You can also create small wrapping paper for handmade gifts or package inserts.

Vision Boards / Affirmation Boards

Use as a base to anchor your intentions.

The dreamy and earthy mood makes it ideal for vision boards. Layer affirmations, goals, or clipped magazine words over the art to create a powerful visual focus.

Tags, Tabs & Pockets

Cut out pieces for junk journal ephemera.

Make tags, tuck spots, journaling cards, or page tabs. Add stitching or eyelets for dimension and charm.

DIY Zines or Mini Art Books

Fold or stitch pages together.

Print and use in handmade booklets or artist zines. The dreamy visual language suits poetic, spiritual, or memory-themed narratives.

Mixed media collage papers are a great way to get started as a newbie!    Everyone started their creative journey somewhere! Be kind to yourself and practice.  Remember mistakes are good, it means you're growing.  Have compassion and trust yourself.  The key is in the process not the end result (albeit inspiring if we like the final piece).  Relish in the journey!

Some of the visual elements featured in the designs may include artwork partially generated using artificial intelligence tools.  These elements are used as creative components and are combined with hand-drawings, paintings, gelli plates, photographs (unsplash) and digital work in Procreate.  All final compositions are original and curated by cosmicmoon.co as the artist.  The use of artificial intelligent-generated assets is disclosed in the interest of transparency and creative integrity.

I encourage you to work with the supplies you have and be flexible to adapt to your own needs.  There is nothing better than experimenting with different materials!  Some of the basics are: good quality paper, mod podge or gel medium, and either watercolor or acrylic paint, Caran D'ache watercolor wax pastels, and a mix-sized bunch of brushes.
